This week, the Global Video Game Enterprise is CD Projekt Red!
What’s GVG Enterprises?
Due to the fact that this is the first weekend of The Witcher 3, I choosed CD Projekt Red for the very first Global Video Game Enterprise!
So, back in the 90s, Michał Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński were pioneers in video game distribution in Poland. After some time, of also playing a lot of RPGs, they decided to develop their own video game.
In 2007, The Witcher was released, based on the stories of Andrzej Sapkowski, a polish distinguished fantasy literary icon.
Wiedźmin (The Hexer, as Andrzej Sapkowski prefers, or The Witcher) is a series of novels and short stories about Geralt of Rivia.
The Witcher (October 30, 2007), for PC and Mac, featured a Geralt unconscious, with vague memories of the past, a decision-consequence system, a living world and a complex and unique combat system. An amazing role-playing adventure!
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (May 17, 2011), for PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox 360 continues on a couple months after the ending of the first game of the series. It features graphical, gameplay and narrative improvements, as well as 16 possible endings.
Also, the tabletop game The Witcher Adventure Game (November 26, 2014) from Fantasy Flight Games, based on The Witcher universe, is either available as physical or digital. An rpg adventure for 2 to 4 players, with a different narrative in each playthrough.
The Witcher Battle Arena (January 22, 2015) was revealed on July, 2014, and released for Mobile (iOS and Android). It’s a MOBA, developed with the help of Fuero Games. You can play from 9 well-known characters from The Witcher series, on 3vs3 battles.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (May 19, 2015) is an achievement for the studio, for it’s visual quality, the extensive work on the narrative and the dinamic in-game world. It shows the amazing capacity of the studio in creating the games they like. Still fresh, we still have much more to see in this game of such proportion. Also, I’m proud to say that there is a portuguese related to the development of this game: Visual Effects Artist at CD Projekt Red José Teixeira.
What can we expect of CD Projekt Red for the future? Well, there’s a game already in development: Cyberpunk 2077. A futuristic rpg! Looking at what they made in Witcher 3, we can trully believe it to be able to be a mark on the rpg genre.
I’m a big fan of The Witcher universe and videogames, and also of the studio. I would love to satisfy my need for RPGs with games developed by them! It’s trully a studio that stands out in the video games industry.
