We are being a little overwhelmed with games like Skylanders or Disney Infinity, or even with amiibos. Here’s a couple of notes of what you need to know about these games.
Nintendo has shaken the world with the introduction of the Amiibos. Not only they unlock features in different games, they are the most perfect figures of Nintendo videogame characters sold all across the globe.
Skylanders and Disney Infinity smoothed the road for these Nintendo figures that features some of the world-wide beloved characters, but it seems that Nintendo didn’t thought of the dimension of the desire for these figures.
I’ll be focusing this time on Amiibos. If you prefer to read about other of these games, choose among these: Disney Infinity, Skylanders, LEGO.
An amiibo is an interactive figure that uses NFC to connect with a Wii U, a new 3DS, a 3DS or a 2DS, on amiibo-compatible games. The new 3DS comes with a built-in amiibo support, just like the Wii U, but the 3DS or the 2DS need a 3DS NFC Reader/ Writer accessory!
There are 2 types available of amiibo functions to be used in games: read/ write or read. The first means that an amiibo can save data and use it in a game and can be read, while the last means that the amiibo can only be read, usually to unlock something in a game.
Their function and compatibility depends on the game that you are playing! You can find a pretty good amiibo compatibility chart at the Nintendo website.
There is a growing line-up of amiibos following the new releases of videogames. They are divided by collections designed by a game title.
Super Smash Bros. Collection: Bowser, Bowser Jr., Captain Falcon, Charizard, Dark Pit, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt Duo, Falco, Fox, Ganondorf, Greninja, Ike, Jigglypuff, King Dedede, Kirby, Link, Little Mac, Lucario, Lucina, Luigi, Mario, Marth, Mega Man, Meta Knight, Mii Brawler, Mii Gunner, Mii Sword Fighter, Mr. Game & Watch, Ness, Olimar, PAC-MAN, Palutena, Peach, Pikachu, Pit, R.O.B., Robin, Rosalina, Samus, Sheik, Shulk, Sonic, Toon Link, Villager, Wario, Wii Fit Trainer, Yoshi, Zelda and Zero Suit Samus.
All of them have a black base and expect to find more than the ones you find at a store, since the complete list of fighters will be available as an amiibo.
Super Mario Collection: Bowser, Luigi, Mario, Peach, Toad and Yoshi.
All of them have a red base.
Chibi-Robo Collection: Chibi-Robo.
It has a light brown base.
Splatoon Collection: Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl and Inkling Squid.
All of them have a black base.
Yoshy’s Wooly World Collection: Light-Blue Yarn Yoshi, Green Yarn Yoshi, Pink Yarn Yoshi and the Mega Yarn Yoshi.
These amiibos have no base.
Yoshy’s Wooly World is the first Nintendo game to receive an amiibo with a much bigger size.
Mario 30th Anniversary Collection: Mario (Classic Colours) and Mario (Modern Colours).
These amiibos have a characteristic green pipe base, with “Super Mario Bros. 30th” written.
Animal Crossing Collection: Cyrus, Digby, Isabelle, K.K., Lottie, Mabel, Reese and Tom Nook. Besides these figures, there is also the Animal Crossing amiibo cards collection.
These amiibos have a brown base.
Animal Crossing is the first Nintendo game to receive a series of amiibo cards, that works just like a amiibo figure. Each series bring 100 cards to collect, and each pack contains 3 cards, one of them being a special card.
Before 2016, you will be able o find the Shovel Knight amiibo. This amiibo has a black base.
Donkey Kong and Bowser have also made an appearance in another figurines-based video game: Skylanders SuperChargers. Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser can be played both as an amiibo and a skylanders, only in the Nintendo consoles version of Skylanders SuperChargers. Their base is an engine, similar to the other SuperChargers.
Most of the amiibos can be used in many of the videogames that Nintendo releases for the Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS / Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 2DS.
Compatibillity and functionality of the amiibos vary depending on the game we are playing.
Amiibos can be used to unlock new things or used to store information to be used in the game.
There are already a great amount of them to collect, as also the upcoming of the cards versions.
We can believe that there will be more of them, to be a part of the lineup, and based on the versions of the cards or the Skylanders, and also the Shovel Knight, I think we may find any kind of character or different versions of an amiibo to be available for us to find and collect.
